Q. Why do I need my hydrants serviced annually?

A. Running and diagnosing a hydrant annually ensures the hydrant is always accessible for firefighters and in a perfect operating condition in case of emergency.

Q. All of the hydrants on my property look fine do I need them checked?

A. Looks can be deceiving, just because it's painted nicely, doesn't mean it's functioning correctly. Hydrants need to be pressurized, cycled, and lubed annually. This helps determine the current health and increase the longevity of all workings parts.

Q. Who is responsible for the hydrants on my property?

A. As the owner, manager, or HOA board you are responsible and held liable for the fire hydrants on the property, the fire prevention bureau may ask for current documentation, this includes annual inspections, flows, and repairs as needed to make sure they're all within the code.

Q. If my hydrant is broken, do I have to replace it ?

A. No, it's always significantly cheaper to repair a hydrant than it is to replace one and, with a proper maintenance program, you could greatly reduce the need to replace or repair in the future.

Q. Are there standards to be met for fire hydrants ?

A. Yes. There are codes and ordinance that each hydrant must be in compliance with for each jurisdiction, this includes Las Vegas, Henderson, Clark County and North Las Vegas.

Q. What are some of things that can go wrong?

A. There are tons that can go wrong but here are some examples:

The operating nut on top of the hydrant could be stripped, rounded, or frozen disabling all operation.
The caps could be rusted or frozen, not allowing water to exit.
It could be leaking, causing many different severe issues and bigger damages over time.
The hydrant may be pressurized while it's off due to debris in the line, creating a safety hazard for firefighters.
